Google Trends shows in real time what the world is searching on Google. It's one of the few free tools that gives direct access to Google search data — not absolute volumes, but relative trends — useful for understanding where people's interest is shifting.
How does Google Trends work?
Google Trends is a free Google tool that shows the interest trend over time for any keyword, topic or entity. The data isn't absolute search volumes, but relative indices normalized on a scale of 0 to 100, where 100 represents the peak interest for that keyword in the analyzed period. The tool lets you compare up to five keywords at once to see which is more searched, filter by country, region, time period and category, and explore breakout related searches — those that are rapidly gaining ground compared to the average, a valuable signal for spotting emerging trends. The Trending Searches section shows the most popular searches in real time or over the last 24 hours. Data can be exported to CSV for analysis. Google Trends is widely used for SEO keyword research, planning content around seasonality, identifying emerging market trends, comparing brands and understanding the geographic distribution of interest around a topic.
Who is it for?
For marketers, SEO specialists, journalists, researchers and anyone who wants to understand the trend of public interest around a topic, brand or product over time and geography.
How much does it cost?
Google Trends is completely free and doesn't require a Google account for basic use, although signing in with an account lets you save searches. There are no paid plans or premium features: all functionality, including data export and keyword comparisons, is available at no cost.
