The core of the platform is AI video generation: Gen-4 and Gen-4.5 models let you generate clips from text prompts or reference images, with advanced camera controls (trajectory, angle, zoom, pan) and movement. Around generation sits a complete video editor with specific AI tools: background removal (without a physical green screen), automatic rotoscoping to isolate subjects, inpainting to remove objects from video, image expansion, motion tracking and much more. The Act-Two model animates avatars based on reference videos, while Aleph handles long-duration generation. The credit system governs consumption: every generation, upscaling and advanced operation consumes credits proportionally. Runway also integrates Google's Veo 3.1 among available models. One aspect to keep in mind: Runway charges credits even for failed or defective generations if you regenerate, which can erode the budget more than expected.

Runway has a free plan with 125 monthly credits (equivalent to around 25 seconds of HD video), with watermark and no commercial license. Paid plans (all with annual billing) are: Standard at $12/month (625 credits, watermark-free exports, access to Gen-3 Alpha), Pro at $28/month (2,250 credits, Gen-4, 4K upscaling, priority queue), Max at $76/month (9,500 credits, everything unlocked). Monthly billing costs more. Credits don't carry over to the next month. Note: the cost per generation varies by model and resolution, and even failed generations consume credits. Pricing has been restructured multiple times in 2025-2026.
