GoFundMe is a peer-to-peer crowdfunding platform, designed primarily for personal and charitable fundraising. Starting a campaign is simple: describe your story, set a fundraising goal, add photos and start sharing the link with your network. Donations arrive directly in the connected bank account, with periodic payouts. Donors receive nothing in return — unlike reward-based crowdfunding — but contribute out of solidarity or to support a cause they believe in. GoFundMe is used for a wide range of situations: unexpected medical expenses, disaster relief, funerals, scholarships, animal rescue fundraisers, social causes, creative projects and much more. The platform includes tools to update donors on campaign progress, manage payouts and, in some regions, access a campaign verification service that increases credibility. There's no minimum or maximum duration, nor a minimum threshold to reach in order to receive the funds raised. In 2023 GoFundMe eliminated the 5% commission it previously kept: today the model is based only on payment processing fees and a voluntary contribution from donors.
