New Relic is an observability and monitoring platform for applications and infrastructure. The underlying concept is full-stack observability: collecting telemetry data from all system components in a single platform — application performance monitoring (APM), infrastructure (servers, containers, cloud), logs, browser monitoring, mobile, synthetic tests, distributed tracing — and making them correlatable to quickly identify problem causes. New Relic agents integrate with virtually all languages and frameworks — Node.js, Java, Python, Ruby, .NET, Go, PHP — and with major clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) and orchestration tools like Kubernetes. The alerting model lets you define thresholds and conditions to receive notifications when metrics exceed set limits. Customizable dashboards with NRQL (New Relic's query language) let you build tailored views. New Relic adopted a radically different pricing model in 2021: instead of paying for features, you pay for ingested data and for the number of users with full access.

New Relic has a free plan including 100 GB of data ingested per month, 1 free full-platform user and unlimited basic users. Beyond the free threshold, cost is based on two variables: additional ingested data ($0.30 per GB beyond the included 100 GB, or $0.50 with Data Plus for advanced features) and the number of full-platform users ($99 per user per month). The model is simple in principle but complex to estimate in real cost, since it depends on how much data your infrastructure generates. Volume agreements and negotiated Enterprise plans exist for high-volume companies.
